Being Led
Over the years, our family has realized how vital it is to pray together. Any time we have had a decision to make, we have found ourselves coming together and asking the Lord what to do. For we know that without His guidance, we can make decisions that seem “right,” yet they're not where He is leading. Instead, we want to always be led by the Holy Spirit, and we desire our children to learn how to be led by the Lord as well.
A few days ago, it was one of those moments. We needed wisdom about an upcoming conference that Bruce and I felt that we were to be a part of. Originally, we were all hoping to drive there. However, we wanted to hear from the Lord.
Per our norm, we sat on our couch and began to thank Jesus. We then took time to search our hearts. Was there something going on that we needed to repent of? Did we need to ask someone for forgiveness? After we had a time of repentance and forgiveness, we rebuked the enemy, silenced our own thoughts, and invited the Holy Spirit to come. As we sat in silence, we all waited to hear the Holy Spirit speak.
After a bit of time, I asked if anyone had received a picture, a scripture, a song, etc. Each person shared what they had gotten. Both Gryphin and Bruce got that Amara and I were to go. Esperanza got some words, and then Zoe had a picture. As Zoe shared, my heart was stirred because it was definitely another confirmation. She saw a house in Hawaii with people walking by. After she shared, I gave her a quick hug and turned to Amara.
“Like Gryphin and your Dad, I too got that Amara and I are to go to this conference together. However, like Zoe, I saw a house in Hawaii. Actually, a few days ago, when I was praying about this, I was instantly reminded of the time when Amara was around 4 years old, and I had left our house in Hawaii. Amara was so upset that I had left that she came running after our van. And when I had asked the Lord why this picture, He told me that having just Amara come with me on this trip is to remind her that He sees her. And that He wants to heal areas in Amara’s heart that have been hurt from the different times I have been gone.”
As I shared, tears began to well up in Amara’s eyes and slowly slide down her face. God had seen my sweet girl, and He had used my 13 and 6-year-old to remind her that she is loved.
Today, are you facing a decision? It doesn’t have to be a huge decision. It can be something simple, but have you invited the Holy Spirit to speak into the situation? Have you chosen to invite your children and/or your spouse to pray with you? It’s time that we stop making decisions based on what feels right or makes the most sense. Let’s choose every day to make decisions that are inspired by the Holy Spirit, and let’s encourage our families to do the same thing!
