impossible?

As we wait for the results of the March 18th MRI, I remember another time God showed up in power!

Ten years ago, our family was preparing to go to Uganda (click here to read more) for an 8-week mission trip. The Lord had done a ton in my heart, and I was trusting Him even though our daughter had brain surgery only months before and was currently struggling with arthritis in her knee. But the Lord had told me to trust Him with her and obey what He asked us to do.

However, the time was ticking away, and our four-year-old daughter’s limp from the arthritis in her knee was getting worse. The medication was not working, and our doctor was not happy that we were taking her to Uganda in her condition. I cried out to the Lord over and over again. Finally, the week before we were to leave for Uganda, our doctor sent in a referral so we could see if a steroid injection in her knee would work.

We lived on the Big Island; all the children's doctors were on Ohau. This meant we had to fly to Ohau for this steroid injection referral. After arriving at the doctor’s office, the nurse explained that this was only a referral appointment to check my daughter out, not to perform the procedure.

A deep passion rose in my heart as I kindly but firmly shared, “I’m sorry, ma'am, but we live in Ohau and leave for Uganda in five days. We need this injection ASAP.”

She could see I was steadfast with my request. Her face held an understanding look as she replied, “OK, let me see what I can do.”

“I’ll send out a prayer request to our prayer team.” Making eye contact, I smiled, then turned my gaze to my phone and started my prayer text thread.

About ten minutes later, she returned to the room with a grin. “Your prayers have been answered. We have an available doctor who can do the injection tomorrow morning.”

My heart leapt.

Soon, the doctor who would perform the injection came into our room to discuss logistics.

Entering the room with a broad smile, the doctor cheerfully stated, “I hear you are going to Uganda. That is amazing. I love Uganda.”

My mama’s heart instantly calmed.

Here was a doctor who didn’t tell me I was crazy for taking my daughter to Uganda but was excited for us to go. He even described his adventures there. Later, he explained that the other doctor got stressed over the most minor things and that we should not worry about her response to our going to Uganda. God was so sweet to know that I needed that kind of reassurance from a doctor.

The following day, Esperanza was once again sedated, and they injected her swollen arthritis knee with a massive needle. Over the next couple of hours, the swelling in her knee went entirely away, and a few days later, we headed off to Uganda for 8 weeks (even receiving the final amount of finances we needed for the trip on our way to the airport). Now, ten years later, she still has no pain from arthritis, and the swelling has never returned. God had used the doctors to heal her completely!

Now, in the present, we only have about 26 days until we leave for the Outback of Australia (we haven’t bought tickets yet). Our daughter’s next MRI is scheduled for March 18th, and we desperately need the Lord to show up in His power!

Do you find yourself in an impossible situation? Well, can you imagine the Israelites who came to the Jordan River? They had miraculously been let out of Egypt to only come to a raging river with no option to cross and the Egyptian army violently closing in behind. I can imagine their fear and trembling. They were in an impossible situation. Yet, God parted the waters, and they crossed over on dry land.

Today, I’m standing with you as we look at our impossibilities and say, “Elohim! You are Mighty and Strong! And we trust You to part the raging river before us! Make a way where there is no way! Heal where it seems impossible! For You, Oh Lord, are the Alpha and the Omega! The Mighty One!”
